ST ROBERTS PRIMARY SCHOOL : NEWTOWN, GEELONG.

Wellbeing > Proactive Supports

Our wellbeing framework is underpinned by proactive, evidence-informed practices that support every student’s learning and development.

      • Morning Circles, Gratitude and Brain Breaks – Daily practices that build connection, emotional regulation and readiness to learn.
      • Restorative Practices – Supporting students to repair relationships, reflect on their choices and strengthen our community.
      • Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHiPS) – Our Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader works alongside staff to strengthen early intervention and student support.
      • ei Pulse Check-ins – Weekly wellbeing check-ins provide students with a safe way to share how they are feeling, allowing staff to identify concerns early and respond with care.
      • Zones of Regulation – Across the school, students learn the Zones of Regulation, developing the language and strategies to recognise, understand and manage their emotions. Calm spaces within classrooms provide students with opportunities to regulate, reflect and return to learning feeling ready and supported.

      • Lunch Time Clubs – We believe play is one of the most powerful ways children build friendships, confidence and social skills. Our lunchtime clubs provide opportunities for students across different year levels to connect through shared interests such as drawing, board games, STEM, library activities and creative play. These clubs also allow staff and students to share their talents while creating meaningful relationships beyond the classroom.
      • Buddy Program – Our Year 6 Buddy Program is one of the most valued traditions at St Robert’s. Every Foundation student is partnered with a Year 6 buddy who provides friendship, encouragement and support throughout the year. Together they share learning experiences, celebrations and special events, helping our youngest students feel safe, connected and confident from their very first days at school.

      • Social Stencil – Social Stencil is an Australian neuroaffirming social-emotional curriculum that helps young people understand their own and others’ social, emotional, learning, and communication styles. This program is taught by our trained wellbeing leader alongside our classroom teachers.

“I also can’t say enough good things about the Grade 6 buddies and the role they have played in helping my child settle. Every mum I have spoken to has felt the same way about the Grade 6 kids and how wonderful they are to the preppies. Hats off to them!” — 2026 Foundation Parent

Wellbeing extends beyond the classroom. From lunchtime clubs and buddy activities to assemblies, House celebrations and community events, students have regular opportunities to build friendships across year levels, develop a sense of belonging and experience the joy of being part of the St Robert’s community.
